COMET Webinar: Qi Ou (University of Oxford). Large-scale strain mapping over the northeast Tibetan Plateau

Not all earthquakes have foreshocks, but all are preceded by the accumulation of strain. Thus, measuring crustal strain in high resolution allows us to identify active faults and quantify seismic hazard. In this talk, I will show how 1 km-resolution strain rate fields generated from Sentinel-1 satellite data can illuminate strain localisation on major strike-slip faults, differentiate creeping sections from locked sections, and reveal previously unrecognised tectonic structures over 440,000 km^2 of the northeast Tibetan Plateau.
