Hi all. Abdulkarim Mhandeni from Tanzania. Enthralled after seeing Prof Jewitt talking live. I am expecting a wonderful presentation.

01:22:22
Thank you so much. Very interesting. Any comment on the cultural aspect of touch. The Western based news was big on lack of touch in the pandemic but for Arab women, we mostly remain untouched so touch or lack of it was not a big topic among us. Other issues took more precedence for us. Also, the way touch is conceptualized among Arabs is different than the way it is conceptualized elsewhere, of course. It is culturally relative. What about Reiki healing sessions. Last night I was the recipient of a reiki healing session through YouTube. And this alerted me to the fact that touch cannot be studied without studying energy which emits from hands which can touch someone without "real" touch.Thank you. Any comments are appreciated.

01:22:42
thank you for such an illuminating talk

01:24:40
I have to go to another meeting now I’m afraid but thanks for this great talk Carey - and nice to see you!

01:26:23
Any consideration of the strength or forcefulness of touch? I’m thinking how with typography you might bold or italicise text to communicate different things. Is there an analogue with different strengths of touch or types, or even touch techniques?

01:26:45
Please kindly write your comments or questions here or just raise your hand to participate in the discussion

01:28:04
Thank you - very interesting and three very different case studies to think about! I have to leave now but have found this very useful.

01:28:58
It does. Thank you

01:29:27
Thank you for a very interesting talk! The first question has relevance also to the issue of the touch vocabularies that I Think that you mentioned when you discussed the first case ie the after experience sensory interviews. If I understood it, these interviews were conducted to generate a vocabulary. I wonder whether alternative epistemologies could give rise to other vocabularies? I'm thinking of haptic engagements in areas such as deaf-blind Communication, massage Communication, etc etc. My Query also arises from Southern thinking.

01:29:37
Thank you for this great talk Did the research explore the impact of other sensory media such as smell and sound on the experience of digital touch?

01:30:22
May I ask the lecture just began or will end?

01:30:51
this is the Q&A after the talk

01:31:12
Thank you so much for a thought-provoking talk.

01:31:24
Thank you Carey for a fascinating and interesting study. I am a newbie in this area and therefore, I have got a glimpse of what touch is in multimodal perspective. Of course, I see some challenges when it comes to culture though. We all can feel or understand touch but with different interpretation

01:54:10

I endorse all compliments directed to Carey and the organisers and express my gratitude in seeing Carey talking about materiality and affection. That has a lot to do with my research on toys' materiality.
